What I learned from walking away from one-sided relationships

My desire was not based on an elevated view of self or a desire to cause anyone pain.⁣

Rather, it came from accepting the fact that authentic human connection is important to me. ⁣

It also came from accepting that I had invested much of my life in a number of activities and relationships that caused me more sadness than they did joy. ⁣

These two realizations left me with a choice to make. ⁣
𝘢) 𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘴…⁣
… 𝘖𝘳…⁣
𝘣) 𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦.⁣

I ended up choosing the latter….⁣

…and in this journey… ⁣

I had to learn how to forgive people for misusing me. ⁣

I had to forgive myself for misusing “me” too. ⁣

I had to risk the possibility of new hurt and rejection. ⁣

… But leaving the “old normal” is the best thing that could have happened to me⁣

For every relationship that I’ve had to take a step back from I’ve been blessed with a handful more of life-giving friendships. ⁣

I’m a firm believer that I will not always find myself surrounded by the people that I expected to have around me….. Nevertheless, I will always find myself surrounded by the people who were divinely appointed to walk the journey of life with me at any given moment in time
